Faculty Workshop on Private Foundation Grants

Date:
Friday, October 31, 2014 - 11:00

1545 Patterson Office Tower, Sociology Conference Room. 11:00 to 12:30 PM, Friday, October 31st. A lunch will be provided

We would like to invite all faculty connected to QIPSR to attend the initial faculty workshop on private foundation grants. A follow-up meeting will be held in the Spring.  Private foundations are quite a different sort of funding source. Often times, personal relationships need to be nurtured over a long period of time. In other cases, one can just submit a grant application like federal grants. The personal relationship types of grants, however, tend to be much larger in their funding resources. We will have presentations by university officials who deal with private foundations and corporations first, and then have some faculty make short presentations that they have experience with or they might be interested in. Then we will discuss some possibilities for obtaining private foundation money. The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

11:00 -11:15 AM. Bleik Pickett, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations,Office of Development.

11:15-11:30 AM:  Margot McCullers, Director, Proposal Development Office

11:30-11:40 AM: Thomas Janoski, Sociology Department talking on the Mellon Foundation

11:40-11:50 AM: Hannah Knudsen, Behavioral Sciences talking on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

11:50-12:00 PM:  Janet Stamatel, Sociology Department, talking on the Russell Sage Foundation

12:00-12:10 PM:  Thomas Janoski, Sociology Department, talking on the Soros Foundation and the SSRC.

12:10-12:30 PM: General discussion about private grants.
