A (Relatively) Gentle Introduction to Bayesian Analysis Using Stata and R
QIPSR will be offering an introductory workshop on Bayesian data analysis on October 23rd at 2:00pm
In recent years, Bayesian analysis has received considerable attention in the social sciences. Unfortunately, misperceptions about the technical skills required to use Bayesian models tend to cause many researchers to avoid it. This workshop will offer a gentle introduction to applied Bayesian analysis to show you how to practically implement models for your own research. In addition to a general overview of the benefits of Bayesian framework, this workshop will explore the fundamental differences between Frequentist and Bayesian Methods. Participants will gain further understanding by estimating common empirical models using Stata and R. Prerequisite: A basic understanding of linear regression and maximum likelihood estimation.
According to a recent article in the NYT, “…Bayesian statistics are rippling through everything from physics to cancer research, ecology to psychology. Enthusiasts say they are allowing scientists to solve problems that would have been considered impossible just 20 years ago.” But what is it and how do we use it? Find out in this QIPSR workshop, “A (Relatively) Gentle Introduction to Bayesian Analysis Using State and R,” by Yu Ouyang (Political Science).
