How to Obtain and Use Census, Panel Study of Income Dynamics, and National Longitudinal Survey Data

Dr. Derek Young (UK Statistics, formerly US Census Bureau) and Dr. Tom Janoski (Department of Sociology and Director of QIPSR) will be giving a workshop on access and use of data collected by the US Census and other government agencies on Friday, September 25th, 201511:00 AM – 12:30 PM in 1545 Patterson Office Tower, Conference Room.

The United States Census Bureau collects and houses an immense amount of social, economic, demographic, and geographic data about our country.  Many of their data products are publicly available within the strict boundaries of their privacy and confidentiality obligations.  The majority of the publicly-available data can be accessed through their website.  In this talk, we will provide a broad overview of the Census Bureau's website, discuss some of their common surveys and data products, and illustrate how to access/export data with a few examples.  It will be beneficial to bring a laptop to this presentation to follow along during the examples.
